Advanced Wi-Fi Guide
Before we go in depth, determine what the red light on your controller does when you are trying to connect. Does it blink fast throughout the entire connection process (2x a second) or does it stop?
Continues to Blink: Refer to Section 1: Dual-Band
Red Light Stops: Refer to Section 2: Dual-Band
Continues to Blink: Refer to Section 3: Single-Band
Red Light Stops: Refer to Section 4: Single-Band
NOTE: When you plug in your grill, your controller will flash a firmware version for about 3 seconds. If your firmware starts with a 1, you have a single-band (2.4 GHz only) controller. If your firmware starts with anything other than a 1, you have a dual-band (2.4 & 5.0 GHz) controller.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Section 1: Dual-Band (Continues to Blink)
- Ensure you do not have a VPN active on the phone
- Check Settings
- For iPhone users, navigate to the settings on the phone. Continue to scroll down, and you will see recteq as an option. When opened, make sure location is set to “while using”. Bluetooth and Local Network should both be on as well. If the settings aren’t enabled, this is likely causing the connection process to fail.
- For Android users, delete the app and then reinstall. Make sure accept all permissions when signing in and connecting the grill.
- Forget Network
- Navigate to your phone’s Wi-Fi settings. ‘Forget’ your connected Wi-Fi network. Now, reconnect back to it. If you could not reconnect successfully, your password is likely causing the connection process to fail.
- Reset your Router
- Unplug the router for 30 seconds and then plug it back in. This can take anywhere from 3-5 minutes to boot back up.
- Hotspot Test
- If all of the above has been done and the red light continues to blink fast, we will need to verify the functionality of the controller. Using another phone, create a hotspot. Connect the original phone to that hotspot. Go through the connection process and see if the grill connects. If it fails, please call us at 706-922-0890.
- Troubleshoot Router Settings
- If you own your own modem/router, occasionally pre-configured settings can cause the grill to not connect.
Section 2: Dual-Band (Red Light Stops)
- Forget Network
- Navigate to your phone’s Wi-Fi settings. ‘Forget’ your connected Wi-Fi network. Now, reconnect back to it. If you could not reconnect successfully, your password is likely causing the connection process to fail.
- Distance/Signal Strength
- Try moving the grill closer to your router or vis vera. Once you have, try connecting the grill again. If the red light continues to shut off, you may need to move it closer or we would recommend getting a Wi-Fi extender.
Section 3: Single-Band (Continues to Blink)
- Ensure you do not have a VPN active on the phone
- Check Settings
- For iPhone users, navigate to the settings on the phone. Continue to scroll down, and you will see recteq as an option. When opened, make sure location is set to “while using”. Bluetooth and Local Network should both be on as well. If the settings aren’t enabled, this is likely causing the connection process to fail.

- The Distance Test
- To start, make sure the red light on the grill is blinking fast. Start walking away from your house until the Wi-Fi signal on your phone starts to drop to 1-2 bars. Once you achieve that stop where you’re at and go through the connection process on the app. Make sure you're putting in your WIFI password and stay where you are the entire time. The reason this works is because the 2.4 travels further than the 5 GHz so when you are on the edge of your Wi-Fi it should only be 2.4 GHz.
- Splitting your Routers Networks
- Give your internet provider a call and get them to split the network, so they have the 2.4 and 5 GHz separated. This will give you the ability to pick between the 5 GHz and 2.4 GHz networks. Connect your phone to the 2.4 GHz network, then go back through the connection process on the app.
Section 4: Single-Band (Red Light Stops)
- Forget Network
- Navigate to your phone’s Wi-Fi settings. ‘Forget’ your connected Wi-Fi network. Now, reconnect back to it. If you could not reconnect successfully, your password is likely causing the connection process to fail.
- Distance/Signal Strength
- Try moving the grill closer to your router or vis vera. Once you have, try connecting the grill again. If the red light continues to shut off, you may need to move it closer or we would recommend getting a Wi-Fi extender.
